The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course is an eight-week program that teaches individuals how to use the inner resources of the mind and body to cope with stress more effectively, to help manage physical illness, to reduce anxiety, chronic pain and depression, and to live life with greater awareness. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course is based on the Stress Reduction Program at the University of Massachusett's Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society (CFM).
In this course, individuals will learn to use mindfulness and meditation to achieve greater levels of health and well-being. Through the use of these techniques, individuals will learn to draw on their own inner resources to change their approach to anxiety, chronic pain, stress, physical illness, and depression providing them with a greater sense of control and life participation.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an important element in Mind-Body medicine. This course requires a strong and determined commitment to daily disciplines of meditation and relaxation. Participants attend a weekly session and are asked to practice what is taught in these sessions on a daily basis.
The course will span eight weeks, meeting once a week for 2 ½ hours. There will be an all day retreat in the sixth week of the course on a Saturday.
The workbook is designed to support the learning and practice of mindfulness. There is a homework assignment sheet to detail your homework practice for each week. Each week consist of formal and informal meditative practices and reading from Kabat-Zinn's book, Full Catastrophe Living. Some weeks there will be written exercises and supplemental readings in the workbook.
